Interview with Annah Moore of
Ignitor
By Metal Mark |
|
|
Ignitor hail from Austin, Texas and play a
1980’s style of metal. They recently released “Road of Bones” on Cruz
Del Sur records. I recently got to interview guitarist Annah Moore and
find out what Ignitor were up to.
When and how did this band come about?
Ignitor was the brainchild of
Stuart and Brendon back in 2004 and sort of spawned off of a band they
had
called T.A.N.G. Ignitor was Stu, Brendon, Pat and Erika, with Bev
Barrington on guitar as well. In 2006 Bev parted ways with the band
and
Stu and Brendon contacted me. Apparently they saw me play with another
band I was in a couple of years earlier. I was super-thrilled at the
opportunity and ended up being chosen as the new guitarist.
Who are your influences?
Many influences are shared by all of us, such as
Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Metallica, Megadeth, but some of the
guitarists
that influenced me the most are Randy Rhoads, Jake E. Lee, Viv
Campbell,
Tony Iommi, Zakk Wylde, Warren DiMartini, and tons of others.
How do you come to get signed by Cruz del Sur records?
We contacted Enrico when we were shopping around for a label.
Enrico from Cruz del Sur has a
good history with other bands of our genre, and is well known and
liked in
the industry, not to mention he had a lot to offer. We liked what we
saw
and went for it and now we're very happy with the results so far.
Your sound and even your look seem very much like metal bands
between say
1985 and 1989. Is that accurate? If so then do you think that limits
your
band in any way?
In some ways it is limiting because people automatically
associate us with 80's metal, so we get that label slapped on us and I
think that devalues what we're doing. We are more rooted in 90's
thrash
than 80's metal, but the leather and spikes kind of dates us to the
80's
metal period. People are quick to categorize more on the look than the
sound, perhaps, and I think that the music really speaks for itself.
What are you doing that’s different from
other metal bands?
Putting on a stage show, rather than just getting up there
looking like the people in
the crowd. Writing intricate and new guitar riffs. |

What’s the metal scene like in Austin, Texas?
There isn't much
of a metal
scene in Austin, unfortunately. There is a small death metal scene
here,
but not even enough bands or fans to call it a "scene". The musical
vibe
here is more "singer songwriter" and blues oriented.
Is anyone in the band in any other projects?
Stuart plays KK Downing in
the Austin-based Judas Priest tribute band Sad Wings. Brendon plays
bass
in a few other projects, one of which is a popular country band. I am
working on some psychedelic stuff with someone as well as working on
my
own solo stuff. Pat is playing drums with an Austin punk band. And
Erika
sings for Drifter, a local Iron Maiden cover band.
What have been some of the high points and low points of the band’s
musical career so far?
High points - Playing Keep It True and Monterrey
metal festivals. Recording and releasing Road of Bones.
Low points...
well, let's just leave that for a later discussion.
Pick the band you prefer from the following pairs
Dio or Ozzy - OZZY
Anthrax or Megadeth - MEGADETH
Accept or Helloween - ACCEPT
Helstar or Pantera - PANTERA!!!
Iron Maiden or Judas Priest - PRIEST
Why should people buy your new album “Road of
Bones”?
So they can be inspired to improve their guitar playing, singing
and or drumming skills.
Seriously though, so they can enjoy some different metal that will
hopefully inspire them in any number of different ways, or just be fun
to
listen to.
Anything else you want people to know about your band or your
music?
It's friggin' heavy metal... what else is there? =)
Rock on, stay true, and death to false metal!!!!
